About Us

Wild at Heart was founded on passions: the passion we have to create the life of our dreams while raising our daughter together, make a difference, and to grow -- plants, animals, and ourselves. Wildness is in our souls, from our migration across the country (twice) to the moment we fell in love on a Harley. Becoming parents has settled us down some, but the beat of adventure still pulses in each of our hearts.

It is that same passion that has compelled us to face what we truly felt called to do with our lives and to pursue it with all our souls. For us, farming is more than just a way to make money . . . it is a lifestyle, a calling, and the only way we can see living our lives. Sustainable agriculture, or farming in harmony with nature rather than against it, is a process that we believe in wholeheartedly. Our farm will never use chemical inputs and will include a diversity of crops and livestock to promote good health for the soil and all living things.

Rare livestock breeds and heritage fruits and vegetables are another passion of ours. We are saddened to see so many breeds and wonderful cultivars becoming extinct in our "one size fits all" society, and we hope to create a haven for some of these farm treasures to survive for the next generation.

Recently, we have discovered our enthusiasm for landscape plants and cut flowers simply for the sheer joy that they  bring to life. Joy is something that we often let fall to the wayside in the daily grind of life and the never-ending pursuit of work, food, and stuff. Our first couple of years on the farm taught us that everyone should participate in growing their own food and that an enormous amount of vegetables can be grown in a small city yard. Given that, we would like to dedicate our large space to "soul stuff" that not everyone can fit but all need, even if they don't know it.

We are also excited about the diversity of "landscape" species that offer food and forage as well as ornamentation, and intend to include these in our offerings as well as help for creating a  more ecologically friendly landscape. With Kenny's degree in Nursery Management and Bri's ongoing research in Permaculture (including an upcoming certification course) we are looking forward to integrating a holistic ecological vision to our nursery and flower farm.
